Appointments

What happens during a treatment?

An Oriental Medical treatment begins with a conversation about your health and wellness, lifestyle, and your personal goals for treatment. This is referred to as an intake. Your first appointment will last for 1 hour. Most of that time will be dedicated to your intake with a brief acupuncture session.

During your follow-up visits, you will receive acupuncture and/or some of the following adjunctive techniques, such as acupressure, moxibustion, gua sha, cupping, and use of magnets. The recommended number of treatments is reviewed during the intake, and determined with your health and wellness goals in mind. Patients may come once or twice weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or even once every three months for a seasonal tune-up.

Patients often feel very relaxed during treatment (some even fall asleep). Please wear loose, comfortable clothing, or shorts to your appointments.

Many people wonder “will acupuncture hurt?”

An acupuncture needle is as thick as a few hairs. Needle insertion is typically painless although patients may feel a “Qi” sensation such as warmth or tingling. Needles are sterile and single-use.
